Ed McKenney: A Legacy of Innovation and Integrity

As co-founder of GEM Equipment, Ed McKenney played a pivotal role in shaping both the company and the food processing industry. With a strong engineering background and deep industry connections, Ed helped launch GEM in 1969 with limited resources but a clear vision: deliver equipment that meets real-world processing needs through close collaboration with customers.

Ed’s leadership drove early success with clients like General Foods and Ore-Ida and led the development of breakthrough technologies, including the belt blancher and deluge fryer systems. His commitment to innovation, quality, and customer trust established GEM as a key supplier to leading names like Simplot, McCain, and Lamb Weston.

A forward thinker, Ed embraced CAD technology, CNC machining, and continuous improvement long before they were industry standards. His legacy is woven into GEM’s culture—one that values long-term partnerships, smart design, and doing the right thing, every time.
